InXile Entertainment recently announced that Wasteland 3 will now release in August due to coronavirus related delays.
InXile Entertainment recently announced that Wasteland 3, the next in the cult classic series of computer role-playing games has officially been delayed until Aug. 28. The post-apocalyptic role-playing game was initially going to release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 19. However, InXile studio head Brian Fargo noted in a statement released on Twitter citing complications from social distancing requirements because of the coronavirus is one of the causes of the delay.
“As with most companies, we have moved to a work-from-home environment some weeks ago,” Fargo tweeted. “And that’s of course introduced new challenges that many of us throughout the world have been learning to manage. We’ve been excited to see the Wasteland 3 Beta so well received. But the reality is that with these new logistical challenges our release was going to be impacted.”
What is Wasteland 3’s synopsis?
For those unfamiliar with the upcoming game, it is a sequel to Wasteland 2. However the game takes place in a completely different part of post-apocalyptic America, more specifically, in a snow-ravaged post-apocalyptic Colorado. Stuck in the frozen wilds, the player is the sole survivor of Team November. And must begin again at the flashpoint of conflicting factions. From there, they’ll interact with the Patriarch, the so-called leader in the region and accomplish different tasks. Along with full voice-acting, the title will utilize the same dialogue tools seen in Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds. The campaign promises to be over 50 hours long with at least ten different endings. The story-driven synchronous or asynchronous multiplayer offers an interesting element to diverging decisions, too.
It’s worth noting that this is not the first time Wasteland 3 has been postponed. It’s first announcement came in September 2016. The game is a result of corwdfunding on the Fig platform to the tune of $3.12 million before adding Deep Silver as its publisher. At the time, the studio had planned for a late-2019 launch. However, that date was pushed back after Microsoft acquired inXile in 2018. Fargo also notes that the developer has support for this recent postponement by publisher Deep Silver and studio owner Microsoft.
What can we expect from the game after this new delay?
As of now the Wasteland 3 beta is currently live for backers. And inXile will now use the additional months of development to act on feedback and suggestions thus refine Wasteland 3. Thus ensuring that the game “launches in the best possible circumstances” on August 28. He finally went on to state that, ”We’re pouring our hearts into this game. And the last thing we want is to have anything but an amazing launch for a product we truly believe in”. he concluded.
Wasteland 3 will release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As well as Linux, Mac, and Windows PC on August 28. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will also get to jump in on day one.
