Umihara Kawase BaZooKa!! launches in Spring while Umihara Kawase Fresh! heads to PS4 in April as well.
Umihara Kawase BaZooKa!! will release on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on May 28, 2020. Success and Studio Saizensen have released the teaser website for their upcoming game which contains details regarding gameplay, screenshots, and character art. The PlayStation 4 and Switch versions will be available both physically and digitally.
What is the Umihara Kawase franchise about?
For those unfamiliar with the title, Umihara Kawase BaZooka! is the latest title in the Umihara Kawase series. The three tiles: Umihara Kawase, Umihara Kawase Shun, and Sayonara Umihara Kawase are now available on Steam. Sayonara Umihara Kawase also supports VR. Umihara Kawase Fresh!, published by Nicalis, is also available on the Nintendo Switch as a digital download of 2.0 GB. Umihara Kawase Fresh! was released last Summer for those who want to experience the latest title in the series.
The main description for the game states: “Umihara Kawase is the name of our backpacking, Japanese, sushi chef heroine armed with a fishing rod, elastic fishing line, and a fishing hook. Face fish-like enemies, conveyor belts, spikes, watery pits, time travel, and more. Collect items, and find your way to the end of each level. The deeper into this dream-like world that you venture, the more challenging the solutions and the greater the time pressure becomes. Along the way, look out for shortcuts and secret exits, and unlock bonus levels.”
Players use the fishing line to hook in opponents in order to form a ‘Bazooka’ shot, which you can then fire at other opponents for collateral damage or just to damage the opponent caught by you. Up to four players compete at once to gain the most points within the time limit. The game also offers a versus battle mode. Up to four players can play against each other, locally or online, and aim for victory in nonsensical battles. As the game will support English, Korean, and Traditional Chinese alongside its native Japanese language option, players in the West will be able to play it without issues.
Is there another Umihara game is coming?
Additionally, according to various retailer listings, Umihara Kawase Fresh! will arrive on the PS4 on April 23 in Japan, roughly one year from the April 25, 2019 release of the flagship Switch version. In Umihara Kawase Fresh!, Kawase carries a fishing lure with “rubber-band action.” The lure can be used as a grappling hook to swing from platforms. As a winch to raise or lower herself while suspended, as a bungee cord to slingshot herself in any direction and as a weapon to stun or defeat enemies. The lure can also catch enemies and items in the environment. Thus pulling them into the infinite space of Kawase’s seemingly magical backpack.
Umihara Kawase Fresh! is currently available for Nintendo Switch. However, there doesn’t seem to be any notable difference between this edition and the Switch release (beyond trophy support), so you aren’t really missing out on much. Meanwhile, Umihara Kawase BaZooKa!! will debut on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on May 28, 2020. The game is also set to release in Asia.
