Team Nigma announces new Dota 2 tournament in MENA region titled, Dota 2 Rising Stars which kicks off this June.
A new Dota 2 tournament has recently been introduced to the MENA region. Team Nigma broke the news on the Twitter, dubbing it as the biggest Dota 2 tournament the region has ever seen. The organisation said that they partnered with Swyp and Etisalat to fund Dota 2 Rising Stars coming up the next month. They added that registrations will be open for the teams until 6 June.
Team Nigma explained that only the teams from the Arab world in the MENA region are going to be able to sign for the Dota 2 Rising Stars tournament. The event will also feature $10,000 prize pool for the top three teams. Nigma said that the top finishing team is going to get the most prize money, $5,000. The second, on the other hand will receive $3,000, and the third will get $2,000. The organisation told that there would be no fee for registration and up to 256 teams can apply for the event.
The Rising Stars event will start of on 7 June. Team Nigma said the matches will run until the next week 15 June. The winner will also get to fight against Nigma’s Dota 2 roster in a friendly match at the end.
MENA region has been one of the smaller regions in the Dota 2 professional scene. The region has been relatively inactive compared to the other Dota 2 regions as well. However, there are several notable players from MENA region. Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi and Maroun “GH” Merhej, who are both in Team Nigma’s roster, are from the region. Yazied “YapzOr” Jaradat, who is playing for Team Secret, is from the MENA region as well. Dota 2 Rising Stars tournament mainly aims to encourage the lesser known talents in the region. The event is a gateway for the players in MENA to prove themselves in the scene to have a shot in the upper leagues.
