Team ADroit defeats IO Dota2 to officially qualify for the ESL One Los Angeles Major.
There has been some issues with Team Adroit in their recent ESL One Southeast Asia Closed Qualifiers match. The Dota 2 team was playing against Fnatic when they began to have connection problems. This resulted in them calling the match off and giving the game to Fnatic, potentially risking their ranking. However, Team Adroit still managed to qualify for ESL One Los Angeles after their victory against IO Dota 2. This means Team Adroit will now be on the stage along with Geek Fam and Fnatic.
The other two qualified teams, Fnatic and Geek Fam, also had a great run in the qualifiers. The two teams were competing in the Group B. They managed to fight off their opponents with no losses, which led them to the top two spots.
Team Adroit have had a though time during their match against Fnatic’s Dota 2 roster. The team was forced to give in the game in the first round due to their connectivity problems. While in the second round, Fnatic went all in on Adroit’s roster, and they had lost the game in the early phases.
However, with their latest victory, Team Adroit is now back at the ESL One Major. In their latest match against IO Esports, the team decided to move to another location to carry out the match. The match was greatly on Team Adroit’s side after they got better connection.
IO Esports is a relatively fresh name in the professional Dota 2 scene. The team was created by a former Fnatic support Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung. Mushi have played in Fnatic’s Dota 2 roster for two years. He was also in Mineski’s roster for more than a year. When it comes to IO Esports, his team needs more practise to compete against the top tier teams. The team had a perfect start at the Southeast Asia Closed Qualifiers in the beginning. However, after the difficulty began to ramp up, their roster started to struggle against top tier teams. Team Adroit was just another example at what their roster lacked in experience.
Besides IO Esports, there was also TNC Predator at the Southeast Asia Closed Qualifiers. There were a lot of high hopes from the Dota 2 team as they had previously won the MDL Chengdu Major. However, things didn’t go as most hoped would to be. In Group A, the team lost one game against Team Adroit, and tied three other games in their run. This led the team to place in the third place in their Group.
TNC Predators have been performing below their peak ever since their victory at MDL Chengdu. After Dota 2’s Outlanders patch, their roster had quite the difficulty to adapt the changes. Although, the team was quick to adapt several new strategies such as brawling, they kept on using their previous drafts. They also didn’t change their hero picks, which left them behind the new meta.
TNC Predators have a lot of potential in the professional Dota 2 scene. While they share the success with Team Adroit in the same region, TNC still have three top performing players in the region. This gives them a great advantage in their matches, however the team needs to adapt to the changes in Dota 2 professional scene to progress even further. After their success at MDL Chengdu, TNC have a clear way to get to The International 2020 scene. But, they still have a lot to go if they want to get into the ESL One Los Angeles. The major will likely result in an improvement for the roster to prepare for future Dota 2 tournaments.
