Portal: Game Info

Portal, a Valve development, is a puzzle-platform game. It was released by the Valve Corporation for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2007. Also known as “The Orange Box”. Portal is one of the most highly acclaimed games of 2007 because of its originality and unique gameplay. Despite having a short duration and a limited story, the game has been openly cited as one the most original games ever made. In this game info article, we will be looking at the game story plot, ratings and the system requirements.

The elements of the game have been taken from a game having a similar concept called Narbacular Drop. The team who worked for that game was hired by Valve to work on the creation of Portal making it a successful successor to the game.

Plot Synopsis

Portal is all about solving a series of puzzles by using a Handheld Portal Device which allows players to place portal on different surfaces / objects in order to travel between them. An A.I. robot named as GlaDOS will try to revoke the players from exploring and solving the puzzles.

The game takes place in the Aperture Science Laboratories Computer-Aided Enrichment Center – Aperture Science to be precise. The research facility responsible for creating the portal gun. Aperture Science exists in the same timeline as the Half-Life Series, although there are limited references.

Portal Gameplay:

Portal is played from a first-person perspective. Players take control of the character called “Chell”, who wakes up from stasis bed upon hearing instructions and warnings from GlasDOS. Chell will be challenged and taunted by the mad-evil robot GlaDOS. Chell after waking up enter test chambers where GlaDOS introduces to the game’s mechanics. GlaDOS, the one controlling the whole Aperture Science Enrichment Center may help along with the game in solving puzzles in a much taunting manner creating humour for the players. GlaDOS promises Chell a cake and some brief counselling on completing all the test chambers.

After the great success of the game, Valve released a sequel in 2011 which too received mostly positive critical reviews. It has much more complex and innovative gameplay.
