4A Games has unveiled a new Metro Exodus DLC expansion titled, Sam’s Story is on the way next month.
Developer 4A Games, with an announcement on Twitter and on the Metro Exodus website, has unveiled the launch date of its second Metro Exodus DLC. Metro Exodus: Sam’s Story, is releasing on February 11 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Stadia platforms. The expansion’s release date had a recent leak via an image that was on the Metro Exodus DLC website. The initial announcement was for 30 January 2020. But the leak could have forced 4A Games’ hand and made them officially share the details earlier than planned.
Metro Exodus, the third entry in the Metro series of post-apocalyptic FPS adventures inspired by books of the same name, is quite the grand genre effort indeed. The last Metro Exodus DLC story expansion was The Two Colonels which released later in 2019. In case you missed it when it released, you can catch the full synopsis and trailer for The Two Colonels below:
“The first Expansion for Metro Exodus, The Two Colonels, follows the story of Colonel Khlebnikov, father of Kirill, as Colonel Miller retraces his steps in the doomed station at Novosibirsk. Discover the story of the ill-fated residents and wield a brand new weapon, the flame-thrower.”
Now, attention is being turned to Sam’s Story, the next dollop of Metro Exodus DLC. Which unlike the previous expansion, appears to be more open-ended. As the title suggests, the DLC will have the player take control of Sam. An American character from previous Metro games as well as the main story of Metro Exodus.
Here is an overview of the downloadable content, via Deep Silver:
Sam’s Story follows former U.S. Marine Sam, a Spartan Ranger who has worked under Colonel Miller since the nuclear war devastated Moscow. And followed Artyom in search of a world outside of the Metro. Sam had long dreamed of returning to his homeland, and perhaps even finding his father alive. The prospect was seemingly impossible in the darkened tunnels of the Metro. But when the Spartans discovered that Moscow was not the only city left alive after the war, holding out hope didn’t feel so foolish anymore.
In the new DLC, Sam will then make his way from Aurora to the remains of Vladivostok’s tsunami-ravaged harbours, ruined industrial buildings. And crumbling residential districts. The players will find that their arsenal of survival tactics, amassed while playing the base game, will come in handy when it comes to bringing Sam back to his family.
4A Games describes the new DLC’s narrative focus:
“To complete his journey, Sam will discover that he needs every tactic he has learned so far to survive. As his surroundings prove to be far trickier than expected. In this expansive ‘sandbox survival’ level, players will experience another gripping storyline featuring new characters, weapons and mutant variants, in a huge, non-linear environment that offers hours of gameplay.”
There has not been a release of a launch trailer for the DLC as of yet. However, it’s likely this the last expansion for Metro Exodus. So you’ll want to get your hands on it if you can. “Sam’s Story” will launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Stadia on February 11th. It can be purchased via the Expansion Pass which is $25 or individually. The Expansion Pass will get you the previous expansion “The Two Colonels” and this upcoming one as well.
Metro Exodus is available now on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
