EGX Rezzed 2020 has officially been postponed.

Reedpop reveals they are delaying the indie convention ‘EGX Rezzed’ to Summer 2020 amid coronavirus concerns.

EGX Rezzed, Gamer Network’s own indie video game event, has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The convention, which was due to take place at London’s Tobacco Dock from 26th to 28th March, has been pushed back to the summer. It’s one of the UK’s biggest games events, alongside its sister event EGX, which normally happens in September. The event’s organisers, ReedPop said that new dates and a venue will supposedly be announced in due course.

What did the event organizer have to say?

“Having monitored the situation around COVID-19 constantly over these last few weeks. And following many hours of conversation internally and with our partners. We have taken the incredibly difficult decision to move EGX: Rezzed to Summer 2020. With date and announcement forthcoming,” ReedPop said in a statement. “We did everything that we could to try to run the event as planned. But ultimately, maintaining social distancing is neither feasible at, nor in the spirit of, the interactive and community nature of Rezzed. It is the community that makes Rezzed so special. And it is our duty to make sure that your safety comes first.”

The developer went on to conclude by stating, “Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by the COVID-19 virus in what is an incredibly challenging time. And we remain determined to run EGX: Rezzed in 2020 for everyone. Who has looked forward to and wants to attend the show. Stay tuned to our website and social channels for the latest information. About when three days of indie gaming fun at EGX: Rezzed will take place.”

What other events has the coronavirus had an effect on?

As the coronavirus outbreak spreads more and more. The news follows several other high-profile gaming events that have been facing postponements or cancellations due to the novel virus.

Most notably, the GDC and E3 2020. Moreover, it’s not just the gaming industry that’s suffering, either. Outside of gaming football leagues that have postponed matches for the next few weeks. The NBA has been suspended, and the F1 Australian Grand Prix has been cancelled.

Additionally, the Mobile World Congress, which takes place annually, near the end of February, in Barcelona, was cancelled. Apple may also be looking into cancelling WWDC, which takes place every year in June. So, just as with other public events, this is the best course of action due to the circumstances. Hopefully, Rezzed will go ahead this summer as planned.

What is the ticket refund process then for EGX Rezzed 2020?

As for those who have already purchased tickets for the original date. They will still be valid for the new date. However, EGX has also suggested that those unable to attend the new unannounced dates may be able to apply for refunds. Through its Customer Services team at egx.helpline@reedexpo.co.uk. Meanwhile, Reedpop has also confirmed its other event, MCM Comic Con Birmingham, will also be delayed. It was due to happen in the Birmingham NEC between March 21-22. And will now instead commence June 27-28.
