Square Enix unveils details of the upcoming Echoes of a Fallen Star 5.2 patch heading to Final Fantasy XIV in 2020.
Square Enix reveals some initial details of the upcoming Patch 5.2, which will release sometime in February 2020. The new patch is titled Echoes of a Fallen Star. One of the new features included is the Final Fantasy VII boss Ruby Weapon!
Released in 2013, Final Fantasy XIV is a MMORPG take on Square Enix’s beloved series. Taking place in the world of Hydaelyn, the game offers its own unique storyline. But has added a number of characters, bosses and other elements spanning the entirety of the Final Fantasy franchise, as well as other Square Enix properties. There is a new entry coming soon though, which is the Final Fantasy VII Remake.
It is easily one of the most anticipated games of 2020. With good reason, of course. When the original game debuted in 1997, it quickly became known as one of the greatest games of all-time. As such, fans have been eagerly waiting for the remake since it was first announced back in 2014. There is still a bit of a wait until this new release. But this new XIV patch should help keep fans busy just before the game hits shelves.
What is the Ruby Weapon?
As mentioned earlier, the upcoming Echoes of a Fallen Star FFXIV patch includes the Ruby Weapon. It is an optional boss that originally appeared in Final Fantasy VII. The creature appeared in the desert near The Gold Saucer amusement park. Ruby Weapon is one of five Weapons to appear in the game, with the other four being Emerald Weapon, Sapphire Weapon, Ultimate Weapon, and Diamond Weapon. Of these five creatures, Ruby Weapon was one of the most difficult creatures to defeat in the game, second only to Emerald Weapon.
In Final Fantasy VII, the weapons’ purpose is to defeat Jenova and protect the planet. Unlike Sapphire Weapon, Diamond Weapon and Ultimate Weapon, Ruby Weapon and Emerald Weapon hold the distinction of not being in the original release of Final Fantasy VII. Both bosses were added for the game’s North American release. Then later added to the International version.
The FF14 5.2 patch also adds a new series of equipment enhancement quests, which will give you the chance to grab some powerful gear as you discover more about the Bozja Citadel – the Hrothgar homeland. This series of quests will continue to receive updates going forward, starting with patch 5.2.
When will the new Final Fantasy XIV 5.2 patch launch?
There’s no exact Echoes of a Fallen Star FFXIV patch 5.2 release date to mark on our calendars just yet. However, it looks like it’ll arrive sometime mid-February, 2020. Until then, Square Enix is offering a free login campaign, kicking off December 18 through January 14, 2020. During which “players without an active subscription are invited to return and enjoy five free consecutive days of complimentary playtime (up to 120 hours) this holiday season.” Players can go to the FF14 website for more details on this.
Final Fantasy VII Remake will be arriving on March 3, 2020.
