BioShock 1 Game Info

A first person shooter role-playing game. BioShock 1 was released by 2K Games in 2007 for PC and Xbox 360. It was later released on PlayStation 3 in October 2008. This is the first instalment of the series “BioShock”. Developed by Irrational Games which was previously known as 2K Boston at the time of development of BioShock.

Irrational’s team took inspiration and was able to make BioShock a popular successor of the System Shock series. System Shock was also developed by the members of Irrational Games.

Ken Levine, the creative lead of the game took inspiration from thinkers like Ayn Rand, George Orwell, and Aldous Huxley. As well as historical characters including John D. Rockefeller and Walt Disney.

Plot Synopsis:

Set in the 20th century (1960), in the underwater city of Rapture. This is the city which was built to create and flourish a society for the elites. It’s intention was to be outside of the control of the government. In doing so, scientists were able to progress greatly. They developed a genetic material called “ADAM”. It’s created on the ocean floor by sea slugs. ADAM allows humans to alter their DNA in order to gain super-human abilities. These include; telekinesis and pyro-kinesis. Andrew Ryan, the business tycoon who built the city of Rapture has imposed a law on the city. It states that no one is allowed to contact the surface world in order to protect the city.

Bioshock 1 starts off with the protagonist Jack Wynad. He’s involved in a plane crash in the Atlantic Ocean. Jack being the only survivor, starts exploring around him in search for help. He then ends up at the bathysphere terminus. This eventually leads him to the underwater city of Rapture.

He is on a mission to find his way out. He fights large amounts of enemies including ADAM-obsessed enemies and deadly Big Daddies. Jack can do so by using a variety of weapons. He utilizes plasmids that give unique powers, or by turning the city’s defences against him. Players can approach and kill their enemies in stealth. Moreover, they may even choose not to kill characters. The moral choice of killing different characters in game is given to the players.
